Tpidil to tin timid rattling
More than 2,000 folkdancers gathered in Erfurt Germany earlier this month for the 14th Meeting of the Federal Folk Dance Society of Germany.
Robert and Beula Dicus, representing the New Braunfels German Folkdancers, participated in the event. They were accompanied by approximately 32* dancers representing seven states, all lembers of the North American adoration of German Folk Dance
This was the first time that American dancers have been invited to participate in a Bundesvolkstanztrcfifen”
The local dancers presented exhibitions of both American and German folk dances during the week-long event. The Americans warmly received in Erfurt, the city of Thtiringia, formerly of East Germany. Exhibitions were presented by dancers from various regions of Germany as well as numerous other countries including Russia, White Russia, the zech Republic, the Netherlands, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Lithuania. Dancing exhibitions were presented throughout the downtown section of the old city.
Evening events were conducted at Th&ringen Halle where the dance floor was as large as a football field. Nearly 2,000 people, all in colorful ethnic costumes, participated in the Polonaise (Grand March), which opened the Grand Ball on Saturday t evening. Three orchestras took turns playing German folk dances for the ball.
Most of the dances were familiar to the New Braunfelsers and other Americans. Many of the squares and circles were made up of several ethnic groups. There were no language or political barriers to overcome on the dance floor.

McQueeney business hosts Friday fish fry; benefit dance slated
“Come rain or Shine It’s Fish Fry Time” has long been the tradition for Friday night fun at Frazier’s Lakeview Camp, better known to all of us as Hot Shot’s.
It’s a family affair that started in the early 1960s and has continued to be a big success. The campgrounds, which are spacious and right on the lake front, are lit up with party lights. Cod and catfish are fried outdoors, fresh and hot.
Michael and Kerry Frazier and their helpers fry up about 300 pounds of cod and 200 pounds of catfish and serve it up with your choice of trimmings. Between 600 ami 800 plates may be served up on any given Friday night, to be enjoyed at picnic tables at die lake or prepared “to go.”
What was once a summertime only activity on Lake McQueeney has become so popular with McQueeney residents as well as lots of folks from surrounding areas, that it’s now a year-round event. If the weather doesn’t permit being outdoors, the fish fry is simply moved inside the restaurant.
Friday night fish fry hours are from 5 to IO p.m. Hot Shots is located at 700 Hot Shot Lane in McQueeney. Call 557-9918 Wednesday through Friday for more information.
A benefit dance will take place at Saengerhalle in New Braunfels on Saturday for Amy Salisbury of McQueeney. Salisbury was seriously injured in an automobile accident and all proceeds will go toward her
