New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - August 21, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas Religious Focus Page 6 Herald-Ze/funp, New Braunfels. Texas Friday. August 21 1987 Ministerial Alliance A different kind of security By PASTOR RON WALTER Our prison system has been a hotly contested and controversial issue in our state for the past few years. Overcrowding, violence, and early releases are problems that will con tinue to have direct effects on all society. One of the reasons we have prisons is to provide a sense of security, that w'e who keep the law will be protected from those who break the law But what does it mean to live day by day without fear, having all our needs taken care of? Really, if you want a “sense of security” in life, choose a prison Get yourself sentenced for IO years and you will be given food, shelter, clothing, medical care, and safety from intruders All you give up is freedom. The Bible declares that we love darkness rather than light Mankind has demonstrated over and over that it would rather live in a prison of self centeredness, greed, and hate rather than have the freedom of love and concern for one another Jesus Christ died to give us a chance to leave this prison and join Him in the glorious kingdom of light Unfortunately, only a few choose to leave the prison We continue to build higher walls of indifference, prejudice and greed, walls which shut us out from the cries of the world, lf we are willing to step out from behind these man-made walls. God will give us a new kind of security Outside the walls, the Lord will give us a new sense of purpose in life He will free us from the guilt and punishment of sin He wil protect us from life's gnawing meaningless And greatest of all. He will release us from the bonds of death itself God offers total pardon, a new freedom as a free gift paid for by His son. Jesus Christ this new kind of security allows us to say each day. “Today is the first day of the rest of my life. let me rejoice and be glad in it ” Briefly Sts.
