Foster homes needed

TDHR officials report that in a recent week, 17 children under age 5 need placement due to severe abuse or neglect.
These children are from a 21-county region, including Comal County.
Children from this county and others in the region are placed with local foster families.
Currently, there are 4 foster families in New Braunfels.
“Although we are able to place many of these children with existing foster families, we filled most of our infant and toddler vacancies,” says Sandra Zabriskie, TDHR Foster Care Information Specialist.
“This could leave us short on foster homes for this age child for six months or more.”
TDHR, the agency responsible for protecting abused and neglected children, also anticipates a surge in the number of school-age children needing foster care in September.
“The schools are instrumental in reporting abuse and neglect, so we always have a high number of reports from teachers and counselors

Spring Branch Extension Homemakers Club had their regular August meeting on Aug. 8. with three Sherwood 4-H’ers being their guests.
They showed the work they had done rn 4-H and all the ribbons and trophies that were won with the work.
Rita Cass, Robyn Wunderlich and Greg Graenke did the Clogger dance.
Every one present enjoyed the program.
The 4-H’ers and guest were served refreshments after the meeting.
President of the club opened the meeting and roll call was taken.
The theme of the meeting was "How to Conserve Water.”
The club will be baking two cakes for the 4-H Awards Party.
The clubs friendship party will be Get. 18 in New Braunfels.
The next club meeting will be Sept. 12 at Virgie Rittiman’s home.
It will be a work day (chicken scratch pillows I and each member Should bring a sack lunch.
Spring Branch VFD plans fund-raiser
Spring Branch Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual bazaar today.
Meals will be served from noon until 8 p.m. Barbecue plates with all the trimmings.
Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the fun.
