Family Outreach held an appreciation dinner April 25 at Finkefs Salad Bar Ic Grill Restaurant.
*- The dinner was given to thank all the volunteers who have worked hard for Family Outreach pnd the community of Comal County in the fight for the prevention of child abuse. Volunteers were recognized for their unique contributions.
; Door prizes and special thank you gifts were presented to some volunteers.
Family Outreach would like thank Guadalupe Smoked Meats in Gruene for donating a dinner for two. They would also like to thank Finkel’s Salad Bar & Grill for allowing them to hold the dinner at their restaurant.
Family Outreach is currently recruiting for their volunteer drive. If you are interested in being a volunteer call 620-1299 for more information.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary met April 20, with Madam President Barbara Alves presiding. Myrtle Bueche was excused from being absent. Betty Solomon reminded everyone of Family Night April 30, and asked all to come out and bring the entire family for fun and games. Nell Groos announced memorial practice on April 27 at 7 p.m. and the memorial for our departed brothers and sisters will be on May ll, at 7:30 p.m. with the team meeting at 7 p.m. She also said cold cuts would be served after the memorial.
Nine of the ten by-laws passed. The nominations for officers for the year 1993-94 are ; Junior Past Madam President Betty Solomon, Madam President Barbara Alves, Vice President Nell Groos, Chaplain Orillian Brietzke, Conductor Shirley Jarisch, Treasurer Ade-lene Row, and Inside Guard Mel-va Kuehne. There will be an election for Outside Guard, Clare Peterson or Hannah Rowald; and trustee, Sue Heinemeyer, Irma Fischer, Eelsa Glenewinkel, and
Carolyn Matykiewicz. You must elect three trustees on May 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. Barbara Alves appointed Florie Bush, Ruth Hardway, and Elvira Russell as tellers.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars 5th District Convention was held at Post 8800, Startzville on April 24-25.
Post Commander Edward McPhee and Auxiliary President Mollie McPhee opened the meeting President of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce gave the welcoming. Introductions were given by 5th District commander Juan Gaytan and 5th District Auxiliary President Anita Fey who introduced State Commander Don Harwood and wife Billy, State Auxiliary President Edna Burke, Area 5 Coordinator Fred Taylor and wife Barbara and State Member Jack Moore.
Guest Speaker was Lt. Col. Thomas L. Lentz, Commander, 338th Operations Support Squadron, RAFB.
A Memorial was conducted by 5th District Chaplain Mel Haas from Post 7110, New Braunfels.
After lunch, the Auxiliary met for their business meeting. Fey opened the meeting and State President Edna Burke was escorted in. Roll call showed twenty-one Sisters from Post 7110 Auxiliary.

Post 8927; 2nd place, Kyle Post 10458 and 3rd place, Gonzales Post 4817. Toys from tile Midwinter parade were presented to children with cancer at Wilford Hall AF Medicial Center. Last year eighteen children with cancer from Wilford Hall went to Camp Discover, State President Burkels Special Project. Camp Discovery is the only camp sponsored by the American Cancer society. A monetary gift from the men of 5th District was given to Camp Discovery. Burke spoke on trip to Williamsburg, Va., membership, using poppies, audits, Camp Discovery and state-wide Loyalty Day program May I in Abilene. Election of 1993-94 officers elected from Post 7110 Auxiliary are Senior. Vice President, Ardith Mueller; Auxilary President of the 7110 Auxiliary and Chaplain Marie Heaton. President Fey installed the incoming officers. After the Audit report and closing ritual, the meeting was closed to meet at Lockhardt October 23-24.
Mrs. Henry 0. Guenzel, a member of the Rose Window of San Jose Chapter, Texas Society, Daughters of the American Colonist, San Antonio, represented the State Regent Mrs. Edgar Merrill at the AFROTC

Detachment 840 Southwest Texas State University’s Awards Banquet held Thursday April 22, at Randolph Air Force Base Officer’s Club.
She was accompanied by her husband Mr. Guenzel. A reception was held at 6 p.m. with Host Colonel Joe M. Banks welcoming the guests. At the Banquet special recognition of the POW/MIA table set for serving was made. The Commandant of the San Marcos High School ROTC was introduced with three of his officers. The Guenzels grandson John Bethancourt, a sophomore, is a seargent in the unit. Over 30 awards were given during the Ceremony. The Texas Society, Daughters of the American Colonist presented a medal to Sharon M. Hill a member of AS 300 Cadets. This medal is given to a Cadet who excels in political science, civics, government or military achievement.
Former Texas AAM University Students recently attended the Aggie Muster in New Braunfels.
