Bush has taken the first step toward fulfilling his campaign promise of lawsuit reform, signing a key bill to limit money injured Texans can receive from individuals or companies punished for wrongdoing. “Law,” Bush said Thursday after signing the bill limiting punitive damages, the cornerstone in a package of bills expected to be sent from the Legislature to his desk. Lawsuit reform — limiting damages, cracking down on frivolous suits and other measures — was a key campaign pledge the Republican governor made last fall. “It is with great pleasure that I sign a cap on punitive damages that will add certainty to the business climate and make the law more accessible and fair to Texas consumers,” Bush said. Consumer advocacy groups, however, said the new law is unnecessary and will protect wrongdoers. Tim Curtis of Texas Citizen Action called it “a slap in the face” to consumers. County adopts new rules for Canyon Lake boat ramps By CRAIG HAMMETT Staff Writer The Commissioners’ Court passed a resolution adopting new Water Safety Rules for ramps and docks at Canyon Lake. The main focus of the new rules centers on “wake zones” of200 feet or more around the docks and certain coves. Slower speeds will be required and diving is prohibited there. Swimming is also prohibited off the docks and ramps. The rules must still be adopted by the Guadalupe-Bianco River Authority which is expected to do so. County Attorney Nathan Rheinlan-der said the only changes authored in the final public hearing included extending the zone at Tom Creek in addition to special zones already established at Rebecca Creek, Turkey Cove and Canyon Springs. at Thur - Jam Nile Host - Outlaw Frl -Muhuqiti Ramble** Sat SI 2' IU1 cr SI 7S l)r:nV Sion I hir S IU I* St TILT Canyon Lake Hwy 306 @ FM 2673 BSKini Contest $50 1 st prize $20 tab 2nd prize Wed Nite 964-3992 ★ ROCK-N'ROLL * 5 entries for contest I DONT KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO.
