Religion in brief
It’s not easy being green
By th© Rev. Kenny Wood
“One of my many pleasures early this year was in meeting the Archbishop of Kenya, the Most Rev. Manasas Kuria,” said the Rev. Robert Keith, rector of Saint John’s Episcopal Church. “As a result of that meetings, the African church is sending us an assortment of crafts and jewelry from East Africa.”
The items will be displayed at the Saint John’s Sunday and April 28.
The Anglican Church uses sales money from the goods to support medical clinics and dig water wells in Africa.
“The crafts and jewelry are wonderful and something you will treasure," Keith said, “and you will be part of an important ministry.”
Saint John’s is located at 312 S. Guenther Ave.
New member reception
New members will be received into the membership of First Protestant Church on Sunday. Those taking that step attended an orientation session Wednesday.
On April 28. members of the Confirmation Class will conduct worship service in both the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services Students will present the life and ministry of Jesus in Scripture, work and song.
First Protestant Church, affiliated with the United Church of Christ, is located at 172 W Coil Street.
‘Look and Live’
A “Look and Live” Revival will be conducted April 28 through May I at Cranes Mill Baptist Church on FM 2673 at Canyon Lake.
Evangelist will be Jerry Dailey of San Antonio and singer will be Mike Copeland of Lockhart.
Dailey reccndy served as chairman of San Antonio’s citywide revival. A third-generation minister, he is pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church and currently serves as the deputy secretary of the Foreign Mission board of the National Baptist Convention of America.
Cogpland, a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Baylor University, has been active in music for the past IO years. He is a member of Lockhart’s First Baptist Church, were he serves as minister of youth and music.
Rick McGee, pastor of Cranes Mill Baptist Church and general chairman for “Look and Live” encourages all Comal County residents to attend.
Revival meetings begin at 6 p.m. April 28 and 7 p.m. the remainder of the week.
The San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will celebrate the fourth anniversary of its charter Sunday with a special commemorative service and potluck dinner at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Campus Christian
Community, 604 Guadalupe in San Marcos.
All persons with a pan in the founding, organization or growth are invited to take part in the celebration. Visitors are welcome.

The festival starts at noon and features a barbecue beef and sausage dinner with all the trimmings. In addition to many game booths, thre will be bingo, refreshment stands, a Country Bazaar booth and arts and crafts.
The Country Auction will begin at 4 p.m. and feature more than IOO brand new and antique items.
Kermit the Frog sings: It’s not that easy being green, hading to spend each day the color of the leaves. When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow, or gold, or something much more colorful like that. It's not easy being green. It seems you blend in with so many ordinary things and people tend to pass you over because you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles on the water, or stars in the sky..."
Most of us know how it feels to "blend in" rather than to “stand out like flashy sparkles."
It happened to me in seventh-grade football. I was our neighborhood star. I could drag two or three guys across the goal line like Jim Brown or Alan Amcche. So what if they were third graders!
Anyway, I went out for “real football" in early September 1961 with IOO other 13-year-olds. Coach Smith lined us up and asked one-by-one, “What position do you want to play?” I said, “Fullback.” I don’t remember anybody saying, “I want to be a lineman.”
The next Monday we got our pads. That’s the day I learned I was a pretty ordinary guy on the field. Green.
It’s not that easy being green, and most of us have to learn to live with it in one arca or several.
It’s interesting how people deal with being green. Some give up. They say, “I’m just dumb,” or “There’s
nothing special about me.”
Others resent it, like the little boy who gets three pieces of candy and complains he didn’t get five. Or that his piece is smaller. Some fight to prove their superiority, and try to be someone they aren’t.
Jesus believed, and still does, that every person is important and inter
esting. Don’t you remember what he did with 12 very green disciples?
Some of you work very hard on strengthening your belief in God. Well, God believes in you too. However green you arc.
The Rev. Kenny Wood it pastor of Covenant Baptist Church, which meets in the Duck Blind Lounge at Forest Waters Country Club.
