New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - April 16, 1997, New Braunfels, Texas 30 year loan on this house from FIRST COMMERCIAL BANK 757 N 123 Bypass Seguin Tom 78155 379-8759    303    0465 Herald-Zeitung g Wednesday, April 16,1997 g 9A By MACHEL FAULKNER Special to the Herald-Zeitung This week, a special program runs though 22 states and 4,200 schools. That special program is Prom Promise. Prom Promise is a pledge to stay clean of drugs of and alcohol on all prom nights. This program is sponsored by our local Nationwide Insurance in order to help prevent tragedy among teens. Hundreds of teen-agers vanish from this world throughout the year because of alcohol and drug related accidents. Many of which occur on prom nights. Prom is always fun and exciting and can sometimes cause teen-agers to do crazy things. But it is also a time for memories, memories that need to be fun and exciting — not deadly. To ensure the promotion of Prom Promise at New Braunfels High School, several events will occur during the week. Throughout the week students will be asked to sign the Prom Promise pledge during lunch. On April 14, flowers were planted in front of the school to beautify the campus and warn students about the dangers of alcohol and drugs — “Plant Flowers not People.” On April 15, the theme was “Don’t be a Dum-dum, Stay Away from Drugs and Alcohol!” and dum-dum suckers were passed out before school. Today, surveys will be filled out and mocktails will be served as a non-alcoholic fruit drink to show students they can have fun without alcohol. Thursday, National Prom Promise Day, is “Fun Without Alcohol/Drugs,” whre the Prom Promise flag will be raised and “Grease” will be shown on the soccer practice field beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $1 unless you dress in “Grease” apparel or have a spring fling key chain. Please remember your promise not to drink or do drugs as a part of Prom Promise — it’s one promise you don’t want to break. (Machel Faulkner is a student at New Braunfels High School.)
