Do-it-yourselfers offer ways to fix rear-end damage
DEAR ABBY: “Watching My Assets” put a dent in the door of his friend’s pickup when he closed it by pushing it with his rear end. Please pass on this information: In newer cars, one can take off the door panel and pop the bent body back out. Only minor paint damage will remain to be repaired. Most repair persons won’t tell you this because repairs are their bread and butter.
Another “fix-it” for such a problem is to put dry ice on the spot. Because of contraction, the dent will pop out. It doesn’t work on all materials but on many.
This is an old science trick
— hope it helps. — SCIENCE TEACHER AND BACKYARD MECHANIC
DEAR S.T. AND B.M.: Yours is not the only letter that arrived from helpful readers wanting to resolve “Asset’s” problem. Read on:
DEAR ABBY: You were correct in advising “Watching” that although it was unintentional, he did, indeed, damage his friend’s door by denting it with his posterior. Therefore, he is the one who should be responsible for the repair.
— BEA IN NEW JERSEY
DEAR BEA: You bet it is. Thank you for the golden nugget of information.
Hostesses and speaker for New Braunfels Garden Club meeting at the home of Delitha Guenzel on Feb. 20 are, from left, Jan Baertl; Judit Gowan, speaker; Delitha Guenzel; Rosemarie Gregory; and Lucille Spain, seated.
The New Braunfels Garden Club met in the home of Delitha Guenzel on Feb. 20.
Dolores Schumann, program chairman, introduced Judith Gowan, urban biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, whose topic was “Texas Common Hummingbirds.” She stressed keeping feeders clean and nectar fresh. Papers were passed out listing flowers and shrubs that attract hummingbirds to our yards. Slides of hummingbirds that are likely to be spotted in south central Texas were shown.
Dorothy Nolte, president, conducted the business meeting. Betty Worl presented a slate of officers for the 2001-2002 program year. The last three meetings of the year were discussed in detail.
The hostessess, Jan Baertl, Maxine Estess, Rosemarie Gregory, Lucille Spain and Edith White ,
served delicious refreshments.
Participants in the recent Voice of Democracy awards program included Commander Al Staudt, Voice of Democracy Auxiliary Chairman Noreen Sippel; Auxiliary President Susan Roach; First Place Winner Elise Saegert; and Voice of Democracy Post Chairman Hugh Talbott. Joshua Wahl and Kristen Patten, not pictured, took second and third places, respectively.
