The Unicorns won 14-8. The waiting game is nearly over, and tile Smithson Valley Rangers (6-4)know one thing for sure. They will play again. The news is not so good for the Canyon Cougarettes (5-5) and New Braunfels Unicorns (4-6), both of which ended the season with losses. After knocking off Canyon 14-8 Friday al NBHS softball field, the Unicorns were eliminated by the Rangers 11-3 on Saturday. The Rangers announced friday that the game, originally scheduled for 6:35 p.m. COT, was moved lo 12:35 p.m. cor Texas’ home opener will he the following night, April 27, versus die Cleveland Indians Hie 7:05 p.m. CUT game will open a seven-game homestand The Rangers also announced that it has added two games lo its schedule one on the road and one at home while deleting another home game in order to balance its schedule at 72 home games and 72 on the road The Rangers added a July 3 game at Cleveland and a June 8 home game against Kansas City. SV Coach Leslie Harris said the weekend results made up for the Rangers loss to Hays (5-4) on Thursday. "Everything worked out the way we needed it to," Harris said. "Now we can sit back and see what happens between Hays and Lockhart." The Rangers outhit the Unicorns 9-1 but were only ahead by two going into the fifth inning. They scored six runs in the final three innings to seal the game. Shelly Sauer was the winning pitcher for the Rangers. Baylor coaches are found guilty WACO, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors in the Baylor basketball conspiracy and fraud trial rejoiced after convicting three former assistant coaches, calling the verdict a “message” to college athletic departments. At least one head basketball coach said it is a message that shouldn’t be necessary. “I’m not concerned,” Texas Christian men’s basketball coach Billy Tubhs said Hiursday. “If you stay witliin the rules, you don’t have to worry about the consequences.” Former Bears’ assistants Troy Drummond, Kevin Gray and Gary Thomas were convicted in a U.S. District Court bore Wednesday on charges they illicitly sent completed tests and term papers to prospective recruits attending junior colleges outside the state. Drummond, whose name appeared on some of the documents used in evidence, was convicted on five counts. Hxmias received four convictions and Gray three. Former head coach Darrel Johnson, indicted on seven counts, was acquitted of all. Each conviction carries a maximum sentence of five years and a $250,000 line. U.S. District Judge Walter Smith Jr. will preside over the sentencing hearing in about six weeks.
