los Fabulocos will Ix* return
ing to Gruene Hall at 1 p.m. Saturday for a CD release party.
From Hast Los Angeles, the band often gets lumped into
the l/)s Lobos camp hut the group really leans more to the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Texas Tornados sound. In fact, lead guitarist Kid Ramos once played for the T-Birds, and brings a healthy dose of Texas blues to the band.
“We all have day jobs," said Jesse Cuevas, lead singer and accordionist, “and we like it like that.
“It gives us more time to spend with our families, and we still get to play live shows as often as we want. We normally play a few shows a week and then go on longer trips a few times a year. Our first CD was mainly cover songs because we put it out so quickly.
“I started writing songs over a year ago and wrote six for this album, plus Kid Ramos and I wrote ‘She Wakes up Cryin' together. I had the lyrics and he had the music and when we put them together they worked out great.”

“We set the band up in the studio just like we do on stage,” he said. “I’ll be in another room singing, but I can still see and hear the band. For the Fats Domino song ‘Keep A Knockin,’ we do half in English and half in Spanish. There was a band from Mexico called Los Teen Tops and they covered a lot of rock songs in Spanish. We do a few classic oldies like they did.”
If you love great Cali-Mex country, blistering blues and a healthy dose of conjunto and zydeco, come out to the free show Saturday afternoon.
Come back on Saturday night for Sean McConnell, with special guest the Dirty River Boys. Tickets are $12 at the door.
