Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce President Michael Meek supported the proposal, and said an expanded civic center would bring 52 more events to the facility a year. I lowever, District 2 Coun-cilwoman Beth Sokolyk expressed her concern that city hall also needed expansion, and made a motion to budget $13 million to $15 million for expanding the civic-center to plan for expanding city hall and for additional parking for the civic center. Sokolyk’s motion failed by a 4-3 vote. District 4 Councilwoman Valerie Hull and District 3 Councilwoman Gale Pospisil argued, however, that planning for the expansion of city hall shouldn’t be part of the plans for expanding the civic-center. Youth sports and performing arts supporters also pitched their arguments for funding more youth sports facilities and a more adequate facility for the perfonning arts.
