the attached garage of the residence.
The Wares had recently relocated to New Braunfels from Georgia, and had been in the home for two days when the incident occurred.
Comal County Fire Marshal Lin Manford said physical evidence collected in the destroyed Timberwood Trail home suggested that the dryer was somehow inadvertently pushed into the lever on the shutoff valve, partially opening it and releasing propane gas into the home.
When Britton Ware went to the garage to relight a pilot on the water heater,
an explosion resulted that blew the back out of the home.
“A big part of this tragedy was an uncapped shutoff valve,” Manford said. “It can happen anytime, summer or winter. I would want people to learn from this that if you have any gas shutoff valves you need to make sure if they’re not being used that they’re capped.”
