Dear Abby Marriage penalty keeps couple away from altar DEAR ABBY: My fiancee and I are both energetic, productive citizens who work overtime seven days a week to provide a better life for our children. We are a middle-aged, upper-income couple with maximum debt (due to our former marriages), in love, engaged and want to get married. The problem is we can’t afford to because our federal and state income tax could increase $11,000 and $5,000, respectively. This means we would have to earn an additional $25,000 in taxable income in order to meet this obligation, and we simply can’t do that. lite tax code is obviously unfair when a couple can’t afford to get married because of additional taxes, and I won’t ask even Dear Abby to rectify that problem. But, do you know of any place or any way we can be married in a Christian ceremony, without having to declare our marriage for federal and/or state income tax purposes? OVERTAXED IN THE U S A. DEAR OVERTAXED: I doubt if you could find a clergyman who would agree to perform a marriage ceremony and conspire with you to conceal the fact of your marriage in order to assist you in tax evasion. In other words, don't expect to find an honest partner for a crooked deal. DEAR ABBY: Every morning on my way to work, I sit in the passenger seat watching drivers read newspapers or paperback books, dress children, apply makeup, shave, drink coffee, watch TV, etc. Abby, please comment to your wide reading audience concerning this problem. It could save your life and mine. RIDING SCARED IN MARIETTA, GA. DEAR RIDING SCARED: ITI try. Drivers who are caught doing any of the above while driving should be fined and assigned to traffic school to learn how serious their seemingly minor infraction can be. Not only do these half-alert drivers risk their own lives, but they risk hitting another vehicle and maiming or killing innocent people. Everything you'll need to know about planning a wedding can be found in Abby's booklet, “How to Have a Lovely Wedding.” To order, send a long, busineas-size, self-addressed envelope, plus check or money order for $3.95 ($4.50 in Canada) to: Dear Abby, Wedding Booklet, P.O. Graham, who died at home Monday of congestive I tear! failure, first danced al age 21 and performed until she was 76, then choreographed ballets long after thai in a career that embraced nearly tile entire 20th century. The most recent of the 180 works she choreographed was "Maple Leaf Rag," which had its debut Oct. 2 in New Yolk. Her early work was compared to Picasso'! paintings and Stravinsky's music. Graham's technique was "on a oar with ballat dancing, which took 400 years to develop," said ballet choreographer Agnel de MUI#. "You hava to go beat to people like Michelangelo to gat this kind of achievement." Her students and tincan became stars, among them Pearl Lang, Mercc Cunningham and Paul Taylor. But none surpassed Graham in the extent of her contribution to the uniquely American art font! ilia! broke from 19th century classicism. Graham, a thin, fragilc-looking woman whose arched eyebrows, vividly painted mouth and lightly wound chignon gave her an appearance as dramatic as her stage heroines, created gripping depictions of lust, greed, jealousy, joy and love. Sex arui violence intermingled in her dances, which drew on such divergent sources as Oroek mythology, the Amel lean frontier and a rebellion against her own puritanical heritage that was years ahead of the '60s sexual revolution Graham's virgins, goddesses and madwomen disturbed and mesmerized audiences with mw emotion as they whirled across bare stages in bare feet to relentlessly dissonant scores. "Every dance is a kind of fever chart, a graph of the heart," Graham once said. McKenna Memorial Hospital. The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung HEB and KGNB Radio I Entry Form CWsLmi Nome BHB CNW'! flit!
