Stocks staged a late technical re covery and closed irregularly higher on balance today after prices had drifted Down in quiet dealings through most of the session. Prices started out irregular drifted Down through the next few hours and then rallied in the final on weekend Short covering and partly on indications that the Senate and House conferees will reach Early full agree ment on a tax Bill which will incorporate most of the features of the measures proposed by the upper House. At the close 337 of the 758 stocks traded on the big Board were higher 213 were lower and 208 unchanged. Thirty eight stocks reached new 1942 highs and there were no new lows. Domestic rails and mexican Dol Lar Loans led an irregular Advance in listed Bonds. U. S. Governments were slightly easier on balance. Commodities were erratic. Cot ton and Cereal grains were barely changed while soy Beans lost More than a cent to around the seasonal lows. Southern Pacific was the most Active Issue traded on the big Board.
