Broadcasts of feature movies i television occupying two- hour blocks of prime network time seven nights a week, are not quite the treats they' were when the vogue started. Tkosteaon, M.D. Dear, Dr. Thosteson: There as in article in magazine about a new type of surgery called cryosurgery. It is a method of surgery involvi n g freezing with a cryoprobe. It tias been used in hospitals a- round the world for Parkin son's .disease, also on skin can- cers, and for prostate. Why isn't it being used more wide- ly? The doctors here don't even talk about it. E.A.B. Cryosurgery is a method of removing tissue by freezing it with an instrument which is chilled far -below freezing tem- peratures by the use of liquid nitrogen. For some operations it has certain advantages; for others it does not. It was an ingenious idea; it has had a considerable amount of publicity, but it is, after all, only an adjunct to the surgeons' techniques. A good deal of surgery (but by no means all) is aimed at re- moval of diseased tissue. This can be achieved by cutting it away, sometimes by use of X- ray, sometimes by freezing, or cryosurgery. Will the baby be gain enough weight in a month to live? Mrs. G.B. Babies have pretty good chance at eight months; at sev- en, many survive with special care and incubators. Full term is always best, but in a case like yours, your doctor has cer- tainly chosen the lesser of dan- gers. Dear Dr. Thosteson: I have diabetes. I am very careful of my diet and feel good, but I lave trouble with my kidneys. am always going to the bath- room. I test my urine often and it is not bad. Mrs. W.R. That doesn't give me enough information, to make even a guess. About all I can say is this: the urine test, while a very useful one, docs not always tell the whole story. Tell your doctor of'your problem, so he can run a blood sugar test, since diabetes, if not under control, can cause, frequent urination. Another possibility, and again one which you should have your doctor investigate, is that some kidney or bladder infection is >resent, quite independent of the diabetes.
