Elderly Oxnard Man Kills Wife, HimselfAn elderly man who reportedly was suffering from terminal cancer and had only a few weeks to live fatally shot his invalid wife then killed himself Friday inside their mobile trailer home in Oxnard, police reported.The victims were identified as Benjamin T. Richmond. 80. and his wife, Maurea, 79, both of 3700 S. Olds Road.Deputy Coroner-Investigator Ray Y’ork said the couple died as the result of gunshot wounds to the head He said the couple appeared to have been dead at least 11 hours.Detective Sgt Lee Monahan said Richmond apparently shothis wife as she lay sleeping in her bed. then shot himself in a bathroom He listed the deaths as a murder-suicide, although no notes were found He said police drove to the Richmond trailer at 1:35 p m. after a neighbor. Floyd Miller, called saying he was worried about the Richmonds Miller said he walked to the trailer to drive Richmond to his doctor, but no one answered the door.Police said after knocking on the door for several minutes and getting no response, they forced open the door to find the two dead.Monahan said Richmondappeared to have shot his wife in the head with a .22 caliber revolver, then later shot himself.He said Mrs Richmond was an invalid and was confined to a wheelchair Richmond had contracted cancer and reportedly had been given only a few weeks to live he said.A funeral service for the Richmonds is pending at Conrad and Comer Mortuary in Oxnard.Richmond is survived by a son by a previous marriage and Mrs. Richmond leaves two sons by a previous marriage, authorities said.
