HOOD Found slain with fianceeVictims Bodies Found on Beach Man Was Decorated VeteraniBv JOHN CROWE•»The brutally stabbed and beaten bodies of a highly decorated Vietnam veteran from Oxnard and his attractive financee were discovered Sunday on an east side Santa Barbara beach just below a cemetery.Police identified the victims as John Franklin Hood, 24. who was discharged from the Army last month with the rank of staff sergeant after a combat-filled year in Vietnam, and Sandra Garcia. 20. of Santa Barbara.Early-morning beachgoers discovered the fully-clothed bodiesunder a blanket and hailed a passing patrolman. Police immediately closed off the area and later gave some brief details. However, they did not release some information for what they termed was a “good reason.”Detectives have questioned relatives and friends of the victims in an effort to trace the steps that led them to that beach. ,“Frank was a very quiet, upright person,’’ said a family friend. Deputy Marshal Les Buzzeile of Camarillo. “The family is mystified as to how he could be the victim of such a vicious attack.”Young Hood had been residing with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hood of 460 Helsam Ave., and left there early Saturday morning in a car borrowed from his sister. Mrs. Linda Jean Ortiz.Early in the afternoon, Hood and his fiancee packed up some food and a blanket and headed for the beach. Police later found the borrowed car near the beach and impounded it.When Hood did not return home Saturday night, his parents called Buzzeile.
