Bombers Sweep Southwest Pacific
Allied Headquarters in Australia i INS—Allied heavy and medium bombers .swept the southwest Pacific yesterday, attacking Japanese bases from the Netherland Indies in the west to New Britain in the east, a headquarters communique revealed today.
An 8,000 ton Japanese merchant ship was hit in Stephan Strait off New Guinea and an enemy reccnnais-sance pUne was shot down during the day’s sorties, from which all allied planes returned.
