Pleasant Community school Board heard a report at their regular meeting thursday evening on project Star. The film strip and discussion was conducted by mrs. Mohatt area director for the project and miss Ruth Keraus associate professor of music at Iowa Wesleyan College who provided the leadership to organize the project two years ago. Federa1 financing of the project will terminate in september of this year and there has been much local interest in continuing the program with school financing. Some 80 youngsters Ages 4 through 8 within the school District Are enrolled in the program and it is estimated that the pro rata Cost to the school for the 1970-71 school year would be approximately $7,000. The Board deferred action until superintendent Robert Kormanek and elementary staff can investigate scheduling and facility requirements. Too superintendent Formanek reported the following to the Board 1. Those on the superintendents adv Soring committee include mrs. Pauline Rosenberger Van Allen mrs. Margaret Swenson Lincoln mrs. Leah Smith Harlan mrs. Betty Geary Salem mrs. Erma Scott pleasant Lawn mrs. Lusena Kerr Saunders mrs. Ava Waterman and or. William Fauna 7th and 8th or. Robert Evans or. Roger Williams miss Bernice Huffman and mrs. Virginia Ekstrand High school. The committee has had three meetings recently with reference to a teacher evaluation 2. During the year 1969 the school earned a total of $13,756 in interest on savings certificates. 3. Mentioned that salary meetings should be considered in the near future and that the Iowa state education association is recommending a Blanket to per cent increase in salary plus increments in the schedule. 4. Submitted a procedure for handling student suggestions relating to academic areas. 5. Recommended the employment of miss Phyliss Mclaughlin As a replacement for mrs. Judith Hull who recently resigned. The Board approved the recommendation at a salary of $3,200 for the balance of the school year. 6. Discussed the finances of the hot lunch program. Action was deferred on raising the rates until further investigation. A a a Donald Young elementary curriculum Corridin Ator discussed in service training briefly and submitted other information. Richard Van Tuyl High school principal discussed scheduling and the student directory for the 1970-71 school year. This service is provided by the Iowa education information Center at an estimated Cost of $1,106.25 and was approved by the Board. Richard Garrels chairman of the professional relations committee of the pea submitted a suggested a professional negotiation policy to the Board for consideration. The Board will meet with the pea committee and officers on january 21st for further discussions. Too extended contracts for summer curriculum development were considered and approved by the Board. There will be approximately to instructors during the six week period at an estimated Cost of $11,700. The program is a continuation of curriculum development in the areas of elementary and secondary math and science. Too the Board approved practice teaching agreements with Iowa Wesleyan College.
