Com twitter my Lefebvre the last Cowboy was bucked off the last ride on the Ferris wheel was taken and the final fireworks were fired into the sky As the 128th annual Medicine hat exhibition & Stampede came to a close saturday. Were really pleased with the results said general manager Jim Macarthur following saturdays Rodeo. Although its preliminary we think attendance is going to be rather Strong. Last year might be a poor one to compare it to just on account of the weather we had so weave been really fortunate in that regard and were really pleased that everybody seems to be Happy and having a Good time. The Midway and free stage entertainment were packed throughout the Day As people worked to get their last Day of stampeding in for another year. Weave been having a lot of fun. We were Here at 12 Oclock said Bianca Milke watching her daughter Alice on a ride. Weave been to All the rides she can go to we had food and went to the petting zoo. Milke says she comes to the Stampede every year and says her Favourite part is the rides for the kids. Macarthur says just judging from How the grandstands looked attendance was up for the rodeos this year. Particularly on Friday night it was very impressive and saturday afternoon looks Strong As Well he said. Were really impressed with attendance on the grounds and in the grandstand. The grandstand filled once again saturday evening As Martina Mcbride took to the stage closing out a week of concerts featuring trooper Kim Mitchell prism and Dallas Smith. It was announced prior to the Start of the concert Mcbride broke an attendance record for the Stampede night shows although final numbers were not known. Mcbride and an 11 piece band Tore through her country pop hits including wild Angels and the Way i am while mixing in soul and a b covers such As Elvis Presley is suspicious minds off her 2014 album everlasting. The night shows have been terrific said Rick Porter who sits on the entertainment committee for Stampede. I think it will go Down in the books As the Best year weave Ever had. Macarthur says planning has already started for next year and adds the Board is looking to focus on the years ahead. We try to look beyond the upcoming year and plan accordingly he said. Everybody yes enthusiastic and i think thatus a Good sign right now too with the kind of year we had. Macarthur was also Quick to Praise the work of More than 300 volunteers through the week to help keep the everything running smooth. We appreciate All of it and its a wonderful Volunteer Effort he said. It takes hundreds of people and they really came through this year. Impressive numbers for Stampede the Canadian press Ottawa the imminent Federal election Campaign will see More Money splashed around than Ever before in Canada and the deep pocketed conservatives can claim a decided advantage an Edge that increases exponentially if prime minister Stephen Harper opts for a longer Campaign than usual new number crunching shows. While much As been made of the ruling part yes fundraising prowess at the National level the biggest Impact of an extended Campaign will be Felt by candidates in local Riding contests. An in depth analysis by the Canadian press of financing at the grassroots level shows that conservative candidates Riding based War chests Are flush with Cash dramatically outpacing their political rivals in efforts to raise and stash away Money. A review of the most recent financial statements filed by Riding associations to elections Canada this month show candidates for the nip liberals greens bloc quebecois and other smaller parties simply dont have the Money to compete on a level playing Field with conservative contenders whose local War chests Are overflowing. Those 2014 financial reports in each of the country s 338 constituencies shows that conservative electoral District associations ended the year with net assets totalling More than $ 19 million More than the Riding associations of the liberals new democrats greens and bloc combined. Liberal Riding associations reported a total of about $ 8 million in net assets nip associations More than $ 4.4 million the greens at almost $ 1.2 million and the bloc at about $ 410,000. Under the 2007 fixed Date election legislation introduced by harpers government canadians will go to the polls on oct. 19. While the legislation specifies that the Campaign must be a minimum of 37 Days it does not specify a maximum length. Thatus important because the new fair elections act provides that for every Day beyond the typical five week Campaign spending limits for National parties and their candidates will increase by one thirty seventh meaning extra Days on the Campaign Trail would Benefit parties with hefty Bank accounts. That Means a party running a full slate of candidates is entitled to spend almost $ 25 million for a 37 Day Campaign with every additional Day Worth an extra $ 675,000 to each party s National spending limit and an extra $ 2,700 for each candidate who is entitled to spend an average of about $ 100,000.
