The so called municipal or Odd year election will be held on tuesday nov. 7th. Official notice of the primary is sued this week by Andy Anderson o. S. Scott and t. F. Hungiville Mckean county commissioners act ing As the county Board of elections gives the list of the various offices for which nominations will be made in september. To nominate judges political parties will each Nomin ate one candidate for judge of the state supreme court and three candidates for judge of the state Superior court. Will fill county offices candidates for All county offices with exception of judge treasurer and jury commissioner will be nominated at the primary. The county offices to be filled at the november election Are recorder of deeds sheriff prothonotary and clerk of common pleas and clerk of court of Quarter sessions and Oyer and Ter Miner Coroner Register of wills and clerk of the orphans court District attorney three county auditors and three county commission ers. Names of candidates who have announced for these offices to Date Are listed on the editorial Page of the Democrat. Smethport offices listed candidates for a number of Bor Ough offices will be nominated at the primary by Smethport voters. Local offices to be filled Are As follows three councilmen two school directors one auditor one Constable one High Constable one assessor one judge of election and two inspectors of election. The 4-year terms of the following councilmen expire this year w. L. Pierotti j. Alfred Johnson and a. Anderson. The terms of Council men Ray Abbey j. V. Mcalpin jr., John Karlen and c. W. Freeman do not expire. School directors Are elected for 6 year tenure of office and the terms of Ralph Herzog and county agent Var. A. Ross expire this year. Or. Boss was appointed to fill the vacancy on. The Board caused by the resignation of j. L. Morrison. Other members of the local Board of education whose terms do not expire Are or. A. R. Livermore presi Dent mrs. W. E. Vandyke Secre tary and c. C. Choate. The Only Borough candidate who has announced in the Democrat to Date is chief of police r. Dunn who seeks the Republican Nomina Tion for Constable. All local office holders Are re publicans. It is expected that party caucuses will be held As usual to present full slates of candidates for political positions in the Borough. This action must be taken before monday july 24, which is the last Day for Mem Bers of regular political parties to file petitions and the first Day for Independent groups to circulate nomination papers. Township voters will nominate voters in Keating Norwich and Hamlin townships will nominate candidates for the following offices one Road supervisor two school directors one Constable one auditor judge Mckean county and town have quota of swig and Sway Saloon Mckean county which leads in 11.000 population excepting Applina almost everything has More than for new hotel licenses when its full quota of swigging and Sway ing joints As defined by the new state population ratio Law for liquor licenses. Smethport too has More than the quota prescribed by the new Law and while the new Law makes pro visions which will probably permit All present License holders to remain in business unless serious objections Are filed against their License renewals or the town exercises its local option privilege and votes dry there is no Chance of additional licenses Ever being issued Here unless the town doubles in population. Under this population ratio act the count of licenses is made by excluding clubs and those hotels which meet with the new definition of hotels. However in granting licenses no new License May be is sued where there is More than 1 to the premises meet with the new requirements. The Board 1ms completed a re sume of All townships and municipalities in the state and indicated those which in the Board s opinion Are not eligible for new licenses. All of the cities of the state none May have new licenses excepting hotels which qualify under the new definition of hotels. Of the 955 boroughs and one town in the state additional licenses a be granted in 219, but almost with out exception these 219 Are very Small communities or communities noted for dry sentiment. In the entire state there arc 795 municipalities which Are at present below the liquor License quota. But to offset these there Are innumerable districts where the licensed places Are far above the new prescribed quota. Seek local option in Keating twp. Dry forces circulating petition to Force vote dry forces in Keating township Are circulating petitions to Force a vote on the liquor question in the township. These petitions must be in the hands of the Mckean county com missioners acting As the county Hoard of elections tomorrow. The Law requires them to be filed sixty Days before the primary which comes on tuesday sept. 12. If sufficient signers Are secured two questions will be printed on the primary ballots in the three keat no township voting districts. One question will concern whisky and other so called hard liquor and the other will be a referendum on the Sale of Beer. The Law on local option specifies hat petitions for a vote must Bear names totalling one fourth of the Argest vote cast for an individual Inadi Date in the last election. The Argest vote in Keating was 945 and his Means that at least 237 names must be of the petitions handed to he county commissioners. The vote at the primary on the question May outlaw either liquor or Beer or both according to be 30rts received by the Democrat yes erday. If the township votes the Pennsylvania liquor control Board will refuse to renew licenses and the territory will remain arid unless the wets Are Able to reverse the proce Dure followed by the Temperance forces. Mcdermott child died last night 7-year-old daughter of former local couple Geraldine Louise Mcdermott seven year old daughter of or. And mrs. Thomas Mcdermott of Rew formerly of Smethport died last night at at the Bradford hos Pital where she had a patient three weeks. Ill nine weeks of a complication of ailments the1 child became Crit ical three weeks ago. Death was attributed to pneumonia. Geraldine was born april 11, 1932, in Smethport. She was a Pupil in the first Grade of the Lee Driver school Sawyer City last term. Teachers and pupils alike were her friends. Surviving in addition to her parents Are two Sisters Marilyn and Beverly Ann and a brother Billy All at Home her grandmother mrs. T. Mcdermott of Smethport and several aunts and uncles. Mrs. George Richards sr., seriously ill in Hospital mrs. George Richards sr., former prominent local resident is in a ser ious condition in the Mountain clinic Olean where she was taken after being stricken with illness in Smethport. Mrs. Richards arrived Here several weeks ago from Oklahoma to spend the summer. She resided on a farm at Marvindale for Many years before going to Oklahoma. Mrs. Richards was in a coma last night and Little Hope is held for her recovery. Her son. Or. Mrs. Grover had been in failing health for some time but had been Active until last thursday when she suffered a stroke at her Home. The deceased was born december in port Allegany the Daugh Ter of or. And mrs. John e. Falk who were Pioneer residents of nor wich. She married Enos Grover of Crosby a Well known Dairy farm owner and civil War Veteran of Crosby on april 14, 1888. Following or.
