Nicaragua for 20 years died Saturday of an assassins bullets The 60yearold Central Ameri can leader never regained full consciousness after an operation performed Sunday by a surgical team including surgeons sent by President Eisenhower He died in the U S operated Gorgas Hos pital in the Panama Canal Zone where he was flown following the Sept 21 shooting in which he suf fered four wounds Under Nicaragua law Somozas 34yearold son Luis succeeds to the presidency As president of Congress Luis was first vice president designate The Con gress made him acting president Friday The colorful 200pound Somoza had showed steady but slight im provement in the five days fol lowing the operation But at mid night Friday night his condition took a grave turn Ruler of Nicaragua in fact or in name Congress is not in session The nomination will be sent to the new Senate in Jan uary for consideration Confirmation of Brennan would leave the court at three Republi cans and six Democrats as at
