extremists to flout the orders of i federal court And the President said it would have been tantamount to acquiescence in anarchy and vould have resulted in dissolu ion of the union if he had not ordered troops into Little Rock o quell violence Eisenhower set forth his views in a telegram to Sen Russell D Ga who had accused the troops sent to Little Rock of high hand ed tactics reminiscent of Hitlers storm troopers On that point the President told Russell in replying to the senators protest I must say that I complete ly fail to comprehend your com parison of our troops to Hitlers storm but to support them the ensuing vio lence and open disrespect for the law and for the federal judiciary would never have occurred Eisenhower obviously was al luding to the fact that Faubus called out the Arkansas National Guard Sept 2 and used it to pre vent Negro students from attend ing classes at Central High School in Little Rock The gov ernor has contended he ordered the guard out to prevent violence and to preserve law and order Faubus did not call off the guard until ordered to do so by Federal District Judge Ronald Davies Ei senhower federated the guard and also sent army troops into ittle Rock last Tuesday after at the high school on Mon day National Guard Use The President wired Russell further Saturday The Arkansas National Guard could have handled the situation with ease had it been instructed to do so As a matter of fact had the integration of Central High School been psrmitted to take place without the intervention of the National Guard there is lit tle doubt that the
