the AFLCIO ample reason for combat Th teamster boss has called AFL CIO President George Meany dopey thickheaded Irishman He has predicted that either the federation will take the Team sters back or the federation wi break up And he has warnec that the Teamsters will affiliat with the splinter federation i a split takes place Even mori galling the Teamsters at their recent convention in Miam Beachassumed the right to or ganize any workers in any fielc anywhere How the federation will reac to Hoffas numerous challenges is not yet clear One thing is certain Meany is irreconcilably opposed to return of the Team sters ousted for corruption in 1957 so long as Hoffa heads the union Walter P Reuther AFL CIO vice president in charge of the powerful industrial union de partment has been less specific on this score Hoffa has saic that were it not for Meany Reuther would favor a return oJ the Teamsters to good standing in the federation But Reuther recently declared that the Team sters union does not meet the basic minimum standards of trade union morality Joseph Curran president of the National Maritime Union has been openly critical of the AFLCIO leadership for its re fusal to readmit the Teamsters He defied the leadership last spring to join forces with the Teamsters in a mutual assist ance pact Many of the federa tions state and local central the only motorist ever to
