attend the show and sent only five ani tended by his brother off with just about every award possible at the National Show at Austin Minn Friday The man was Everett Maahs Lincoln whose three Hampshire and two boars put on one of the most tremendous win rning feats in the history of this biggest of all swine shows When the show was all over is what Maahs had won GRAND CHAMPION barrow tofthe show with his 230pound champion w Champion welterweight bar of show with his 215 pound animal Grand champion carcass bar Crovv with a 231poimd animal lhat entered in the carcass show because Maahs felt it wasnt enough to be in the live contest Champion boar of the Hamp shire that brought the price of any animal in the PREMIER SIRE award for the gets of Top Version another Maahs top boars Maahs feat becomes even impressive when a person realizes he had two of the top barrows in a show which had barrow entries championships a number an cam of North Iowa swine producers riched with contributions VALUABLE VOLUMES Craig Tenney examines a gift of four volumes of Civil War memoirs The Century Series and the picture of Lincoln are gilts from Dr George Truman Carl Tenney added the books and gifts from other Mason Cityans to his Civil War library CM I War Books Given fo Tenney to Tenneys collection Mayor George E Mendon gave Tenney a copy of official records ofthe Civil ANOTHER ORIGINAL vol ume came from Clerk of Court S H MacPeak MacPeak gave Tenney a history of the war that MacPeaks father purchased in Maquoketa at Christmas time in 1865 MacPeaks father had just returned from the war It is an amazingly accurate history of the Tenney said Miss Marybelle Jackson 76 Crescent gave Tenney a nearly complete set of official maps of the war Tenney has visited all but two of the major Civil War bat tlefields They are places one can see You dont have to go abroad to see he ex plained Christ Stromley Funeral Rites L to Be Monday services for Jhrist Stromley 79 who died of a heart attack Thursday in the yard of his home near here will be Monday at at the Anderson Funeral Home Lake Mills and at 2 at the Som ier Lutheran Synod Church northeast of here The Rev Richard Newgard will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery Mr Stromley is survived by his wife Viola 17 children 3 sisters and 4 brothers He was born Aug 24 1889 at Mona and spent most of his life in Worth offered at the show was Pangburn and his son in the Duroc show Thel Pangburns placed three animals including a junior spring boarj which was fifth out of 33 jnals shown at Oliver Plant to Go Back to Work on Monday CHARLES CITY By next week about of some hourly employes of the Oliver Corporation laid off Sept 11 twill be back at work George W Bird plant manager said Fri The remaining workers fwiil not be called back until the strike has ended and sup plies of steel have begun to be Bird said he was leaving Mason City Dr Carl invited him over to see an original Lincoln letter and sig nature The married to Antonio Marroni Sept 20 1908 in Italy He came to the United States and she followedarriving April 25 1914 She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church Surviving are eight daughters Mrs
