government for in back pay charging he was fired in 1953 for refusing to white wash an unfavorable character report on a key figure in the tax collection senice The suit has been filed in the U S Court of Claims by Edward E Hoppe now a Dallas lawyer Hoppe was formerly assistant commissioner of Internal Revenue At the time of his dismissal he headed the senices inspection unit set up to guard against cor ruption within the senice Hoppe said in his petition that his dismissal by Commissioner T Coleman Andrews was approved by Secretary of the Treasury Hum phrey and the Civil Service Com mission and was based on po litical Advtru Rtport His lawyer John P Witsil said Hoppe a Republicanappointed veteran of 24 years in the sen fired solely as a mat ter of political expedic icy be cause
