Appeals for Peace VIENNA The Hungarian rioting continued Thursday and Premier Imre Nagy promised he will negotiate with Moscow to withdraw its occupation troops if the rebels will end their revo lution Nagy went on the radio to ap peal for the rebellious forces of students and workers to lay down their arms and help his new government He promised that if they did so the country would get a new deal As soon as order is reestab lished those troops which were called by our government to help will be he said Recall Forces Apparently this meant that as soon as the revolution ended the Russian troops tanks and jet plane pilots would be recalled to their bases Then Nagy would take up negotiations with Mos cow to have the four or five So viet divisions in Hungary evacu ated to Russia Broadcasters in Budapest Soviet and Hungarian troops were slowly crushing the antiSoviet fighting went on There were no late figure on casualties but travelers from Hungary Wednesday night said hundreds had been reported killed in Budapest alone The ruling Communist Party in contradictory broadcasts appeal ed for the people to return to work and warned them to stay off the streets because of contin ued shooting Secretary Ousted It was announced the ouster of its first secretary in an evident effort to appease rebels who since Tuesday night had been staging a bloody uprising in the heart of the Hungarian capital Radio Budapest said Ernoe Ge roe who only this week returned from Belgrade where he had a reconciliation conference with Yugoslavia President Tito had been replaced as first secretary by Janos Kadar a former jailed Titoist It was the second major shake up in the Hungarian hierarchy in two days and the third in three months Wednesday Imre Nagy purged for Titoism in 1955 re weather with rain snow and cool air extended over wide areas from the Dakotas to the Western quarter of the coun try Thursday An intense storm moved across the Plains and brought rain to the Northern
