retary of the Navy Fred Korth who last week protested a ten tative Pentagon decision to deny the Navy more nuclear powered aircraft carriers is re signing and will be succeeded by Paul Nitze now an assistant secretary of defense The White House announced Monday that President Kennedy Korths resignation Saturday The resignation will take effect Nov 1 In a letter to Kennedy dated PAUL NITZE Navy boss V in wreck ELMA Kenneth Zubrod 18 of rural Alta Vista was killed early Sunday and his brother Larry 15 seriously injured when the car in which they were rid ing careened off a county road five miles west of Howard County town and hit a farm driveway embankment Howard County Sheriff Percy Haven said Kenneth was thrown out and suffereda fatal skull racture Larry was taken to a Sew Hampton Korth that the pol icy dispute between the Navy and McNamara was a factor in Korths resignation White House sources also said there was no connection be tween the resignation and the controversial TFX fighter plane contract Korth has been secretary of the Navy since December 1961 Before coming to Washington he was president of a bank at Fort Worth Tex It was Korths connection with the bank that exists between two state agencies in the handling of the states mental health pro gram The board supervises the states six mental hospitals in cluding the big mental health in stitutes and another
