Doubts By HERBERT PLCMMER ASHINGTON Nov 6 business and ft naucial world may continue on the anxious sea for weeks to come regardless of the election outcome Usually the un easiness which these groups fee subsides after tb results of thi balloting is known Business always appears hesitant before national election year a period of anxiety afterwards is indicated Business and financial leaders will be seeking answers to ques tions such as these Does Mr Roosevelt view the out come as a maidate to go ahead with whatever social reforms he may have in mind Or does he re gard the elections simply as a vote of confidence in his own leader ship Tendency to Right The president has made several gestures of friendliness to business He has expressed his desire to help the capital markets to reopen H has given assurance that the gov ernment wants to get out of the lending business just as quickly as possible He has reiterated his faith in the profit system These would seem to indicate a tendency on his part to the right Will it be borne out by future devel opments Within a short while various committees of congress will con verge on Washington for the pur pose of whipping legislation into shape for the coming session The white house and the budget bureau will be hard at the task of preparing the budget Already the president has indicatedthis scanning the Skiei ill of which in the absence of definite assurance may tend to make for uneasiness in the minds of some Business and finance had hoped the president would afford a peek hehind scenes when he addressed the recent bankers convention They wanted to know of his plans if any for balancing the budget They were curious as to what he had in mind about future taxation Reassurances oil inflation and the future fate of the dollar would have been welcomed Mr Roosevelt saw fit not to dis cuss any of these matters in detail Business therefore will be scan ning the skies in the postelection weeks for signs of possible new ured it and Salter referred him to a list of holdings of the company The witness then admitted that the greater part of the stock was in the investment trusts MacNeille repeated his assertion of yesterday that the opposition to listing the assets of the company was based on a desire to prevent un dve hull buying of the stock Dont you think that it would have put a damper on the sale of the were granted the privilege f balloting Wrecked When Herriot Leaves 5 Radical Members Quit Premier Will Resign Thursday PARIS Nov 6 politi cal truce cabinet of Premier Gas ton Doumergues ship of state was wrecked by politics today after nine months tortuous voyage on the French sea of politics Five radical members of the cab inet led by Edcuard Herriot vice premier and minister without port folio deserted Doumergue at the re quest of radical socialist party leaders The six resigned orally at a cabinet session The formal resignation of the cabinet will be presented to Presi dent Thursday The night when his at tack plane nosed over in landing at the Fort Crockett airdrome Colonel Hickam commander of the army post as well as the third attack group of the air corps was alone in the plane A and several Ne groes were beaten in election day disorders in this vicinity today bringing the known election toll in the U S to five dead The disorders supposedly were prompted by attempts of Negroes to vote Race feeling has flared else where in southeast Missouri in re cent weeks Horace Ferrell 33 a white man and an unidentified Negro were slain and Ferrelts father John E Ferrell and Clarence Posey identi fied as a welltodo white farmer were critically wounded The Ferrells and Posey were re ported fired on as they were bring ing Negroesinto town to vote taken tpa hospital a Ferrell also Both Panics See Gains in Early Voting Weather Ideal in All But Two Northern Corners By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Both republicans and democrats found something to cheer about the first scattered returns from Tuesdays balloting New deaths following the tragic shooting Monday night in Pennsyl vania cast a shadow over the first nationwide vote on the deal Two men were fatally shot and scv era others wounded in disorders near Holland Mo Ideal weather prevailed through out most of the country except at the two northern corners in the northwest and in New England Show Demo Jains Democrats found the first en couragement in early returns when two small Massachusetts towns normally republican reported demo cratic gains over past years The republicans quickly counter ed however with scattered victor ies in Michigan and Kansas Pointe Aux Barques township in Michigan which went democratic two years ago registered wide margins for republican candidates The first Arkansas City precinct to report gave Gov Alf M Landon the republican incumbent 16 votes to 11 for Omar D Kctchum the democratic candidate Vote Closely Watched Pennsylvania balloted under the watchful eyes of 150 men employed by the senate campaign expendi tures investigating committee Chairman Byrnes D S C dis closed he had authorized theiv em fcioyrnenC Many candidates Were only wait ing for the polls to close to claim election In the house 68 including 62 democrats had no opposition New Ashford Mass as usual the first town to report its complete re turns showed a trend toward the democrats as compared with it 1932 vote All Total Vote Cast in 1930 Mason City residents flocked to the polls Tuesday in large numbers to vote in the general election While the vote wag not expected to approach the record vote of two years ago indications were that a new high figure for an offyear was being set by ffle trek to the polls B3 2 oclock in the afternoon the number of persons who had voted was approaching the 3000 mark more than the total cast in the last off year election in 1930 Last years total of 9300 in the city however will likely not be approached al though the rate of voting generally increases later in the day Etid Strenuous Campaign The election marks the close of one of the most strenuous cam paigns waged in North Iowa for more than a decade Both parties pushed their offensives up to late Monday night when both democrat ic and republican rallies were held in Mason City An appeal to vote the democratic ticket was contained in a dodge which apparently was given city ride distribution Monday night It listed the federal farm loans federal home loans corn loans cornhog program NRA abolishment of child labor and the various relief pro grama as reasons for voting the democratic ticket The v the morning in Mason City and at 8 oclock In the remainder of the precincts of the county The earlier hour prevails in cities of 6000 or more in which registration is re quired All polls will close at S p m Counting boards started the task of counting the ballots in the Mason City and Clear Lake corporations and Geneseo and Clear Lake town ship precincts at 10 oclock in the morning MAY PASS 600000 By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Unusually heavy balloting at many precincts and prevailing fine weather throughout the state strengthened expectation of a rec ord Iowa offyear vote in Tuesdays general election Voters were waiting in line at many of the 2452 precincts with the opening of the polls at 7 a m in reg stration cities and at S a m in other places After a midmorning ull balloting again became heavy at noon It generally was believed that the total vote would top the 600000 mark by a considerable margin but whether the anticipated heavy vote would benefit most of the democrats or republicans this
