hundred thousand tourists who neg lected to include the French Riviera in their itineraries this year are re sponsible for a business mens re volt against the municipal govern ments of the leading Riviera resorts The past season has been one of the leanest since the war Nice had 50000 fewer tourists than last year The average tourist spends a week in Nice That means a loss of 350 000 tourist of trouble in the prin cipality Mussolini Is Blamed However an order from Mussolini is credited by the French with be ing chiefly responsible for the sud den inrush of foreigners He ordered the municipal authorities and the i police to see that every tourist went j away contented Overcharging died J overnight The most important j hotel keeper would suffer at the hands of the law if a tourists com plaint was found valid In San Remo the hotels add 10 per cent to the bill as a service charge and not even a bellboy will accept a tip The Chamber of Commerce of Nice estimates that the
