changes possible Compromise is likely DES MOINES W For the first time in nearly 70 years the Iowa legislature was near agreement Satur day on a proposal to legal ize liquor by the drink in Iowa The next step is up to the Iowa Senate which is expected to dis uss Tuesday the bill which sail ed through the House with sur prising ease Friday However the House made sev eral major changes in the meas ure which the Senate passed last month and Senate Majority Lead er Robert Rigler RNew Hamp ton said he is not sure our members can swallow all of the House amendments If it doesnt the bill would have to go to a conference committee Leaders on both sides said they expected that the legislature in ic end will come up with a galizing bill and that liquor ver the bar will become valid on uly 4 The last time that was possible as prior to 1916 when the legis ature repealed the old mulct law nacted in 1894 Rigler mentioned local option nd implied consent amend ments as proposals our ment ors have
