presided over the meeting and read the by laws and regulations which were drawn up by the organizing com mittee Officers elected for the coming year were President William Bastian vice president Mrs V J Horton secretary Orville Larson treasurer Mrs Carl Nystrom di rectors for 2 year terms Milton Sjulle Roger Totten Mrs Clar ence Bina directors elected for one year tearms are Mrs J C Iverson and George Hruska The regular meetings of the club will be held on the last Mon day of each month and the major object will be to beautify Calmar Spanked Superintendent Dow City At Dow City Miss Mildred Wiggins has taught for 50 years in the same school Prior to her halfcentury at Dow City Miss Wiggins taught 5 years in the rur al schools of the same county Whats more she is probably the only school released from the Mercy hospital at Mason City He had been a patient there since April 1 when he fell from a moving car and suffered a skull fracture Dumont Guy Jackson has been taken back to the hospital in Hampton and is seriously ill with virus pneumonia and asth ma Dougherty Relatives and friends from Belmond Goodell Klemme Geneva Hampton Dougherty Thornton Meservey and Mason City surprised Mr and Mrs Virgil Prilipp of Dough erty on their birthdays Sunday and Mrs Nels Anderson of Clear Lake were ac companied by Mr and Mrs Har old Holmgaard to Marsh alltown recently on a business mission has been re ceived here of the birth of a daughter to Mr and Mrs Victor Dolan of Salina Kans Stilson Mr and Mrs Jerald Richardson of Britt and Mr and Mrs Ralph Richardson of Des Moines visited their grandparents Mr and Mrs W B Richardson recently Goodell Mr and Mrs Bill Sheriff Sr went to Clarion Tues day evening and attended the an alysis meeting of the Iowa Book keeping company and Mrs Frank Sherman of Bloomington Wis visited Tuesday with Mr and Mrs Floyd M Kidd Nora Springs Mrs Richard Daniels and daughter Gloria Jean who had spent 2 weeks here with the formers parents Mr and Mrs Neil Burnett have returned to their home at Fayette Mr Daniels who is a senior at Upper Iowa uni versity took them home Jesse Meehan and Mrs Eva Baumgartner have re turned from a 3 months visit with relatives and friends in Phoenix Ariz and California and Mrs Em mett Ryan of Marcus are spending a few days in the T C Ryan home and Mrs Gerald Raisch Mr and Mrs Walter Raisch and Maxine and Mrs Jene Kennedy attended the National cosmetologist convention in Des Moines recently and Mrs Daren Green of Charlotte N Car at tended the funeral of the formers sister Miss Pearl Green Goodell Mr and Mrs Ed Thompson returned this week to their farm home They have spent the winter in Weslaco Texas Nora Springs Mrs George Willsher is confined to her home by illness W H Sloan of Rockwell City district president of the American Legion Auxiliary was a guest at the home of Mrs C L Slrate Tuesday She and Mrs Strate attended a guest luncheon of the Winnebago county organization Wednesday evening W G Williams has been ill at her home here for several days and Mrs Harlan Mellott Keith and Kenneth went to Kokamo Mo to see the for mers grandmother who is very ill She is 91 years old Enroute home they will visit in the parental T Mellott home in Cantrill Popejoy Aiihea Lambertsen visited her sister Ua Mae Lam bertsen in Mason City recently Herman Evertts is i a patient at Mercy hospital in Mason City where she is receiving medical aid E L Smith has re turned from Trenton Mo where she attended the funeral of S Sgt Robert Max field who was killed in action in France in 1941 Mrs Smith was a friend of the family and Mrs Junior Erickson spent a day recently vis iting friends and relatives here Anna Brickey and her brother J J Guyer of Buf falo Center recently visited in the home of Mrs Brickeys daughter Mrs Dale Scott and family Arnold Woodiwiss and son Dean Arnold have re turned to their home south of Manly from Mercy hospital where the boy was born April 14 and Mrs I W Lackore and sons of Ames Mr and Mrs Jerry Schreck of Rowan and Mrs Peter Schreck were re cent guests of Mr and Mrs M A Pendergast and Mrs George W Muhlenbruck celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in the presence of 96 relatives and friends at their home recently Louis Manifold submitted to a recent appendec tomy at the Lutheran hospital in Hampton i 78 of Farmers Sign AAA Program in Fayette County West in Fay1 ette county are planning on large participation in the 1949 larm proj gram according to L D Hitch AAA chairman He said that 3298 farms are listed on the county AAA records Of these 2560 have indicated they will participate in this years program This is about 78 of the total The leading practices for 1941 are the spreading of lime and fer tilizers on soil conserving crops Mr Hitch said Other important practices are the use of chemical weed killers tiling construction of open drainage ditches contour ing intertilled crops contour strip cropping and plowing under green manure crops Large quantities of lime and fertilizers have already been spread on the fields this spring Nora Springs Unit of Auxiliary Honored by Iowa Department Head Nora of the numerous special honors which have come to H D No 449 o the American Legion Auxiliary n Nora Springs during the current year was disclosed in a letter re ceived by Mrs C D Moody unit president The letter came from Mrs H K Stringer of Iowa Falls deparimem president and read as follows The Director of Hawkeye Girls State Mrs Thomas R Can has given me the privilege of choosing the units which will be given the Rotarians to Mark 25th Anniversary Hampton Rotary club will celebrate its 25th anni versary Wednesday evening with a dinner and special program at the Coonley hotel The club was chartered at the Coonley hotel May 6 1924 with more than 300 in attendance Ten of the charter members are now living Among the charter members ex pected to attend are Dr J C Pow ers Santa Ana Cal the first pres ident Charles Haase Eldora and Walter T Robinson Des Moines Seven of the original members still reside in Hampton James H Boehmler president will preside and Russell H Finneli is program chairman
