Wire Servlcei West Berlin city government Thursday authorized loans of one million marks to truckers to keep supply trucks rolling to isolated Berlin despite a Communist cold blockade threatening the citys lifelines The Communists stepped up their pressure East German news papers accused the West German government of preparing provoca tions against the usual Communist procedure before an nouncing some new action against the West In retaliation for prohibitory taxes imposed by the Reds on trucks supplying West Berlin the West German government broke off trade talks with the East Germar Thursday morning New Communist taxes on Be lins truckers who supply near half the citys food go into effe at midnight an niversary of the start of the crip pling Soviet blockade of 1948 The citys executive counc voted a grant of one million mark as a temporary measure afte the West Berlin mayor said th citys 850 truckers must ge through no matter what the cost But it is only enough1 to pay th Communists part of the issue of Friday April 1 there will be a 12page tabloid in which will be unfolded in words and pictures the story of how 100 employes of the Globe Gazette work together to produce and distribute this newspaper Several historic reasons exist for publishing The GlobeGazette Story at this time It was on April 1 1925 that Lee P Loomis took over the management of the GlobeGazette which that day be came a member of the Lee Group of Newspapers Thirtyfive years earlier on April 1 1890 the foun dation of the Lee Group of Newspapers was laid by the late A W Lee of Ottumwa by the purchase of the Ottum wa Courier Shortly after this purchase W F Muse later coowner and publisher of the GlobeGazette went to the Courier as city editor and D M Conroy later business manager of the GlobeGazette joined the Courier as business manager The GlobeGazette staff members feel this is an anni versary worthy of recognition Another reason for presenting the story of this news paper is the fact that the GlobeGazette nowhas passed an important milestone in number of readers Thirty years ago when Mr Loomis took over the management of the GlobeGazette it had a circulation of Today it is n
