that so often constitute the subject matter of my com mentaries Instead Im going to consider with you some things much closer to kind of chitchat that usually makes up my daily newspaper column And 1 think Ill lead off with two approaches to the subject of lies lying and liars Some may feel that Im a bit inconsistent in these approaches seeming to be highly critical of untruthfulness on the one hand and giving approval to it on the other Criticize me on this score if you think I have it Five CenU a Copy MASON CITY IOWA MONDAY MAKCH 1951 Faper CoiisliU at Two Blizzard Numbs North coming Anyway I sometimes feel that our socalled child psychologists get off all tooeasy when to ferreting out the causes of juvenile delinquency and its adult sequel crime Once I commented on this in connection with a re lease from a child welfare special ist admonishing against being cross with little Junior innocently he comes up and proceeds to kick a tattoo on your FrMstration Feared Junior the reasoning went might get the idea that he isnt wanted in his home That of course tends to develop a sense of frustration arid frustration is about the worst thing that can happen to anybody except the very thing thats going to happen to little Junior if when he gets a little older he goes around kick ing people on the shins All of this was several months ago Now I have another release from another craft Advisory service Its along a similar line Only thistime par ents are warned against discour aging little Junior when he gives out with a falsehood even whopper The lies children tell are not always lies They are oftensigns of a lively imagination which par ents would do well to encourage Isnt that just too sweet I wish It were true It isnt We had I much more Blizzard Postpones Kitts psychologists call nor mal flights of fancy is old enough for some firm but kindly counsel about the importance of being truthful In aggravated cases some firm pats at the base of the backbone work wonders Take this from one who has been on both the sending and the receiving end Another Slant on Tall Tales That ends my little preachment on this general proposition that parents have a duty to introduce their children to the discipline which a cold and often cruel world will impose on them at a later date x Now we turn from what some may view as a scolding attitude to a more genial and smiling ap proach to the subject of prevari cation And I begin by expressing a longheld suspicion that the con temporary crop of goodnatured liars as distinguished from the tractive blond wife Lillian
