Jacobsen Assigned to Appropriations Group in Washington By HUB A BIACK GlobeGazette Washington Bureau WASHINGTON March resentatives Fred Biermann of De corah and B M Jacobsen of Clin ton have won important committee places in the seventythird con gress beingassigned respectively to the agriculture and the appro priations committees Both of these committees are ma jor exclusive committees and mem bership on them precludes mem bership on any other house commit tee The democratic leaders are at tempting to place two freshmen congressmen on the democratic side of all major committees of the house and Iowa is particularly for tunate in having1 an old member and a new one placed on two of the most important committees of the house Is Haugen Successor AH of the new Iowa congressmen wanted a place on the agriculture committe hut Biermann was ac corded the place because fie suc ceeds Representative Gilbert N Haugen of Northwood long chair man of the house agriculture com mittee and ranking republican member on it under democratic control Senator Louis Murphy of Du buque has won a place on the sen ate committee on agriculture for estry rHcUinson Also Named The new Iowa senators other committee assignments are the committees on commerce and on education and labor Senator Brook hart whose seat he takes was a member of the bankingand curren cy interstate commerce inter oceanic canals claims and civil ser vice committees in the seventy second congress Senator L J Dickinson ol Al gona retains his membership on ap propriations military affairs pub lic buildings and grounds and
