WASHINGTON Were eat ing our words with relish saic actress Helen Hayes who had actively supported Richard M Nixon in the i960 presidentia campaign as she recently visited the White House to re ceive President Kennedys bon voyage for the repertory group she is leading under State De partment auspices on a 30week European tour It could hardly be said thai Miss Hayes was speaking for all of show business for a great many had no words to eat John F Kennedy in his cam paign received Hollywood and Broadway support that re minded oldtimers of the sec ond Roosevelt era And appro priately for aside from politics JFK has many associations with the world of entertainment JOSEPH P KENNEDY the Presidents father once was president and board chairman of Film Booking Office of America and was connected with the Patjic Exchange both of which were absorbed into RKO Peter Lawford the motion pic ture star is the Presidents brotherinlaw And through his wifes family the President is a kind of distant step rela tive of Gore Vidal novelist scenarist playwright and ar dent Kennedy Democrat To cap the point Attorney General Robert F Kennedy recently sold his book The Enemy Within to a Hollywood producer The relish with which Miss Hayes is eaing flavored greatly dential retinues her words is the Presi keen and ob vious interest in the arts As a representative and senator Kennedy had a standing order present eight congressional districts was achieved by the Iowa House Thursday over the opposition of rep resentatives from the 3rd District The vote on the bill which now goes to the Senate was 67 39
