KENNETH FINK Princeton Research Service PRINCETON N a Republican Whos a Democrat Which are the population groups that the present time have the highest proportions of Re publicans Which the highest proportions of Democrats Results of the most recent survey reveal a number of find ings that should give political leaders in both major party groups much to think about in view ofthe fact that this year the presidency the entire mem bership of the House of Repre sentatives as well as a third of the US Senate seats will be up for grabs come November HIGHLIGHTING todays find ings are the following facts 1 In only 3 of 12 important population groups examined do Republicans outnumber Demo crats These groups include professional workers the busi nessmanmanager group and collegeeducated people 2 In one of the 12 groups the proportion of Republicans and Democrats is exactly the same 45 years older 3 In each of the remaining groups Democrats outnumber Republicans These eight groups include labor union members people w h 6 are en gaged in skilled craftsmen work the salesclerical worker group those who have no more than high school educations the 2129 year olds the 3044 year olds the semiskilledunskilled worker group and those with no more than grade school educa tions 4 POINTING UP even more sharply the task facing the GOP this year is that in no population group does a majority in that group consider itself Republi a can This is in sharp contrast with the fact that a majority in each of three large population groups consider themselves union m e m bers those with no more than grade school educations and the semis killed and unskilled worker group How do voters line up between the two political parties Voters eligible to vote were asked this question In politics as of
