Mason City Globe-Gazette (Newspaper) - March 1, 1928, Mason City, Iowa TWO MASON PARCEL POST TO CUBA IS STOPPED Statute Is Cause of Rupture With Cuban Government According to an announcement re celved by Postmaster Q M Wooflrufl from Second Assistant Postmaster W Irving Clover all parce post Bhlpments consigned for Cuba are to be discontinued immediately The statement explains that For many yeara this department endeav orded to conclude a permanent parcel convention With Cuba but success Cuba bavins no Interest in such an arrangement because of a United States lawwhich prohibits tut importation into this county of JOBS than clgarets or cheroots single package thus excluding from the pace poat one ot the main pro ducts ot Cuba however in the fall 01 1925 the department succeededIn ne gotiating a temporary parcelpost Agreement with Cuba effective Janu ary 1 1926 which stipula tion that H the abovementioned ob Jectlonabls statutes are not amended BO as to admit to the parcel post thte important product of Cuba that IB clears delete and cheropte the Cuban government has the right tc abrogate the agreement effective June H n 1O27 Following urgent negotiatlona Cuba agreed to defer the carrying this stipulation until March 1 1B28 order to allow the United States fuithar opportunity to obtain the de sired modification of objectionable statutes A bill to this effect Is now under consideration by congress but post masters have been Instructed thai parcelpost packages for Cuba should be accepted only so long as there remains sufficient time after the date of the mailing to allow the par eels unquestionably to reach Cuba before March According to local postofflce of flclals due to the statute prohibiting the Importation of clgarets Into thlt country from Cuba In
