of 62 Willsons stars are invited A return to River City The Music Man comes back to River City on June 19 1962 Stars and pro ducers of the Warner Brothers movie of Meredith Willsons Broadway musical 1 hit are being invited to next years North Iowa Band Festival Warner Brothers Studio has agreed to fly Meredith and Rini Willson Morton DaCosta the di rectorproducer of the picture and an impressive list of stars of the movie as well as press radio and television representa tives from across the country to a special showing of the movie in Mason City Willson author and composer of The Music Man basedil largely on scenes from his na tive Mason City and is largely responsible for bringing his co workers on the film back to its original locale HE HAS SUGGESTED to the sponsoring Mason City Cham ber of Commerce that a repre sentative band be invited from each of the 50 states to partici pate in the 1962 Band Festival parade The Band Festival com mittee and the Chamber board approved the suggestion The two local groups in a meet HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEREDITH Top personalities of the movie version of The Music Man assist Mrs Willson cut huge cakes as Meredith Willson celebrates his birthday on the Warner Brothers set in Hollywood Left to right are Paul Ford Hermione Gingold Rini Willson Robert Preston director Morton de Costa Shirley Jones and Willson The stars have been invited to the the 23rd annual North Iowa Band Festi val It is only one event how ever in a day filled with music color and excitement The day starts with band con certs in Central Park the Ma son City AllGrade School Band leading off at am The band stand Will be filled throughout the day except dur ing the parade THE PARADE of 84 bands 81 queens in convertibles two dozen floats and dignitaries of the day starts at 10 amIt will form just ahead of the television cameras at KGLO Studios then proceed to the Hotel Hanford south on Federal to 5th SE and north on Delaware to State Street More than 15000 spectators are expected to line the parade route and watch the twohour spectacle Included will be Miss Dorothy Schott J o i c e Miss North Iowa of last years festi val the featured Glenwood School Marching Band and Paul Yoder famous composer from Ft Lauderdale Fla who will be guest conductor for the massed band concert in the eve ning THE STADIUM will be open to the public at pm and the grand entry of the 81 visit ing bands will start They are expected to fill the grandstand and north bleachers by 7 pm If other years are a measure of the crowd the public seating in the east and south bleachers will be filled to overflowing long before that hour An added feature for this years festival is the return of queen candidates from the 1946 festival headed by Miss North Iowa of 1946 now Mrs Arvid Lindell of Greene They will be guests through the day with their families with the womens division of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce as their hosts The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Band Festi val providing the noon meal and travel expenses for the visiting bands and their queen candidates 3 boys suffocate inside freezer CONCORD N H ffi Three small boy playmates climbed into a freezer chest while at play and smothered when the lid closed on them late Thursday The dead children are Keith Loughry 6 his brother Glen 4 and a next door neighbor William Anderson 4
