16 Frenchmen Held After Arms Seized Paris UR The government announced Friday the seizure of 2 busloads of arms and arrest of 16 persons after an investigation of an alleged plot to demoralize the French army Among those arrested were 3 high officials of Gen Charles de Gaulles rally of the French peo ple One of them was a member of de Gaulles private protective police The inquiry into the purported plot against the army heretofore had revolved mainly around the communists including newspaper editors and members of the na tional assembly De Gaulle is the bitterest enemy of the commun ists and his party is at the oppo site political pole from them The interior ministry which controls the countrys police an nounced the seizure of the arms and ammunition on the outskirts of Paris Thursday night The ar rests were carried out in connec tion with the capture The seizure resulted from the questioning of a man Thursday in connection with the governments inquiry into the attempts to de moralize the army an interior ministry spokesman said Admit Planting Bomb on Plane Killing 13 Manila UR Two men have confessed planting a time bomb on a commercial airliner which exploded killing all 13 persons aboard government investigators said Friday The confessions were handed to authorities in Daet Camarines Norte province who were re quested to draw up criminal charges against the pair and 2 others reportedly implicated The 2 men one a convict the other an exconvict were paid to put the bomb on the plane authorities said The plane a Philippine Airlines craft disappeared May 7 while enroute from Daet to Manila It apparently exploded in flight while over the sea Ludvig Sun deen 48 a mining engineer who once lived in Litchfield Minn and Richard Parker 25 formerly of Rochester N Y were aboard Daet authorities were asked to press the case because the flight originated there The confessions given to them said the 2 men were hired to deliver a box to the piane and that they did not know it contained a bomb Names of those involved were withheld pending the filing of formal charges But national bu reau of investigation officials said evidence already collected was sufficient to convict 3 persons in eluding the alleged mastermind in the plot The motive for the plot was Ob scure NBI agents said they were probing a report that one passen ger obtained a accident insurance policy a few days be fore the crash They also looked into the possibility that a love triangle might be tri angle involving a Filipino woman whose husband was aboard the ill fated plane Thus far Rent Hikes Some Up 700 Per Cent Washington In the 2 months since it became law homerule rent control has brouht result brought results ranging from minor increases in some places to a few rent boosts steam shovel He spotted the steelhead in the Puyallup river and aimed his Clarion Boy Suffocated in Bin of Corn Clarion White 10 year old son of Mi and Mrs Law rence White of Clarion suffocated Friday when he fell into a bin of shelled corn on his fathers farm near Clarion The boys father and Orrie Keeling a nephew of White had been filling a truckload of corn from the bin Kenny was drawn into the bin by suction as the corn was being removed White who tried to pull the child out of the bin was himself drawn into the corn up to his shoulders but managed to escape The 2 men with the help of neighbors managed to shovel the lad out of the bin and the Clarion fire department made a vain at tempt to revive him with oxygen and an inhalator Death was due to suffocation the Wright county Laboratory Washington A missing atomic bottle has been found but the search goes on for some of the uranium235 which was in it Senator McMahon D Conn made that announcement Thurs day as his senatehouse atomic energy committee adjourned pro ably until Monday its hearings into charges of incredible mis management made against David E Lilienlhal by Senator Hicken looper Lilienthal heads the atomic en ergy commission whose Argonne national laboratory in Chicago missed the bottle of fissionable material last February It con tained an ounce of U235 Js of which has now been recovered Dug Out of Box McMahon said the commissions general manager Carroll Wilson had reported to the committee that the missing bottle was dug out of a large steel box of waste material in the Argonne laboratorys spec ial radioactive burial ground The uranium apparently had been spilled from the bottle after which the container was discarded It was all due to carelessness and negligence McMahon said Besides requires no such oaths Hearing for Juveniles on Drinking Party A hearing will be held in police court at 10 a m Saturday for 14 teen agers and their parents in connection with what police said was an
