congressional district caucuses Friday elected 32 dele gates to go to their partys na tional convention uninstructed as to which of several presidential candidates to support However indications based on interviews with the delegates themselves were that their per sonal preferences stood about two to one for AdJai Stevenson as op posed by Sen Estes Some of the delegates declined to reveal their own choices It was reported there also was sen timent among some of them for various other presidential possi bilities These included New York Gov Averell Harriman 24 Votes Iowa is entitled to 24 votes at the Democratic national conven tion opening in Chicago Aug 13 But it will send 48 delegates and 32 alternates In addition to the 32 delegates and 18 alternates chosen at the district caucuses the con vention itself Friday afternoon will elect 16 delegates and 16 al ternates on an atlarge basis The district and atlarge dele gates will have half a vote each The district alternates will have a full vote apiece except for the 8th District which chose four al ternates with a half vote each but the atlarge alternates will have only half a vote each How ever they will vote only in the absence of their district or at large delegates There were delegates cer tified to the partys state presi dential convention The district caucuses were divided between the KRNT Radio Theater and the Hotel Fort the Guarantee Oil Aurelia was killed Thursday night when the pickup truck he was driving was struck by an Illinois Central passenger train at the west edge of Aurelia Two airmen on their way home for a leave were injured fatally Thursday when their car collided headon with a render ing truck about six miles west of Osceola on U S 34 They were Airman Johnny De Long 20 Franklin driver of the and Vincent Bjork man 19 Geneva Ohio Tobias Stutzman 37 Kalona was killed Thursday when his car collided headon with a truck on Iowa 61 just north of Wapello John Ibbotson 46 Mediapolis driver of the truck said he saw the car coming toward him on the wrong side of the road He told authorities he tried to hug the shoulder of the road but the car crashed into the bed of the truck after narrowly mis GlobeGazette Johnine Joe Brown has been named as one o 36 high school students selectee by the American Junior Red Cross to take part in training and study centers in Europe anc Japan this summer according to Livingston L Blair National Di rector of Junior Red Cross and Educational Relations Miss Brown who attends high school in Meservey Iowa will be one of 12 students divided into groups of boys and two attend each of the Inter national Study Centers being held jy the Red Cross Societies of Great Britain Italy West Ger many and the Netherlands Military The American Red Cross will be represented at the Netherlands Center by four members selected rom military dependent schools n Europe Miss Brown has been assigned to the West Germany Study Center All the tee nage Junior Red ross members attending either nlernational Study Centers or American Junior Red Cross Training Centers for military de endents in Europe and the Far East were nominated by Red ross chapters throughout the
