Original Intent DES MO1NES July 29 ff Standard rural schools which qual ify to receive state aid have in creased to such numbers that the original intent to allow each school a year for each pupil out of an annual appropriation of 5100000 has been automatically defeated At the distribution of aid just completed the amount to each pupil was more than halved 2209 ap proved schools with an enrollment of 38839 receiving a pupil In 19241 the number of schools was 1 134 with an enrollment of 19727 The increase has been kept up de spite raisingof standards During the last two years 300 new buildings have been erected and 258 remodeled by adding base ments vestibules and chemical toilets or ty providing correct lighting ventilation and heating Schools by Counties The number of standard schools by
