and carry on a program of expansion at our local and prob ably supply through our surplus facilities a portion ot the power needs of areas in the state less favorably situated Mason City will be one of the tey points of the proposed system and the work to be done here will represent a sizeable investment We have long recognized the jcnefits to us and to the state aris ing from the inlerconncclion of Lhc major power stations in Jowa Several years ago when the large generating plants at Davenport Des Moines Fort Dodge and Kansas City were all a part of the United Light system a tie up of these units was worked out At that time an exhaustive study was made with the idea in mind of including Peoples Gas and Electric which was also in the United Light group Although our company has for a long time been interconnected with the Iowa Pub lic Service Company the advan tages ot the proposed Towa grki system will be of far greater bene fit to us We recognize tho importance ol The initial phase o the grid con struction calls for ncsv lines in addition to those under ion from Fort Dodge to Iowa Palls and on eastward to Dubuque rom Iowa Falls north lo Mason City and then on to Albert Lea Minn looking more and more to the Mid dle West for locations in its ever expanding decentralization and dis persion program Iowa can be sure of getting a large measure of this industry if it can offer power at reasonable rates and in large quantily with every assurance of dependability Strickland declared We are very pleased with the Inclusion of Peoples Gas and Elec tric in the proposed Iowa power grid system as it will assure our territory of an increased and more reliable supply of electric power It will in no way affect the generation of electricity here in ample and reliable electric serv ice and are confident that when completed the proposed Iowa grif system will place this locality in most enviable position Five Routes Two eastwcsl and Ihree norlh south roiiles have been oullinct for
