where you spent your youth Im addressing this question particularly to those who grew up in a medium sized small midwestern town If youve had this experience reliving your know that those store buildings grain elevators and houses which seem ed so big to the child eye have shrunk in an unbelievable way If you havent had the exper ience revisiting the scenes of your going to be able to do so vicariously and pleasantly a year or so from now when the movie version of The Music Man comes to town Im recently home from two full days in River City Its situated on one sizable segment of the 103acre Warner Brothers lot in Burbank Calif Its several blocks of quaint busi ness houses and dwellings consti tute Meredith Willsons idealized version of the Mason City Iowa he knew as a lad in knickerbock ers back in BUT BY SUBSTITUTING some names and altering the architec ture a bit here and there it could as well be Quincy 111 or De corah Iowa a half century ago Its quite unlikely that any other town would have a Pleazol cigar store and billiard parlorknown to Willson in his high school days But there would be other marks just as distinguishing for each community I arrived just a month late for the massive action in that outdoor replica of Mason City I had to be content watching and listening to it in the projection room where the footage thus far processed was presented in a the rate of 10 an hour seven ersons have been killed on Iowa highways since the long Fourth July holiday weekend began The latest victims included a 7 monthold girl Julie Tiefenthaler daughter of Mr and Mrs Rollin Tiefenthaler Carroll The girl was killed and her parents and three other persons were injured Sat urday night in a twocar crash at a county road intersection four miles northeast of Breda OTHER SATURDAY night vic tims included Charles McCowan 24 Iowa Falls and Vernon Zim merman 59 and Jesse Davis 42 both of Cedar Rapids McCowanwas killed when his car went out of control and over turned on a gravel road three miles southwest of Alden McCowan was found by high way patrolmen who took him to Ellsworth Hospital He died a short time later McCowan was alone in the car at the time of the accident and officials theo rized that he fell asleep at the wheel Zimmerman and Mrs Davis died in a twocar crash near Ce dar Rapids Mrs Davis was a passenger in a car driven by Zimmerman which
