Drive Opened CHICAGO Eisen hower launching the 1958 drive foi a GOP Congress told the na tion Monday night Americas se curity has been markcdlj strengthened during his five years in office In an address at a party dinner and for a coastto coast televisionradio audience the President pledged his admin istration will keep the nations defenses strong to deal with the Soviet threat And Eisenhower who startec his sixth year as President Mon day called for election in Novem ber of a GOP team of allstars in culmination of the party drivi to take over control of Congres from the Democrats First and the Midwest Tuesday as new snow was added to existing depths and stiff winds intensified conditions Lamoni reported a 7inch fall Tuesday while the Weather Bureau issued a heavy snow warning for the southeastern half of the Missouri High Wind precipitation and little or none was expected Eastern Kansas and western Missouri were bearing the brunt of the new snow Six to 14 inches had snow by Tuesday night as the storm center heads slowly in a northeasterly direction Brisk 25 to 35mileanhour winds were causing heavy blow ing and drifting The State High Future Action in Doubt Mason the Hastings Neb Tribune derided down predictions by per sons he called Democratic doc tors of gloom and depression who never let confidence interfere with discouragement Seaton said Democrats blamed the defense situation on GOP economies but he said Conj gress last year cut from Eisenhowers defense ap propriations request He acknowledged that Russias launching of two Sputnikshad tremendous impact
