Mason City Globe-Gazette (Newspaper) - January 17, 1947, Mason City, Iowa 4 Jan 17 1947 City city U Cerro Gordo Got From National Foundation to Help Fight Polio Here Since Aug 11945 the Cerro Gordp county chapter ol the National Foundation lor Infantile Paralysis has received for the na tional foundation for use in hospitalization and the purchase of equip ment for polio victims to A J Thomson county cam paign director A total of 70 cases of polio was reported in the county in 1945 and in 1946 total of 10 was re ported to the county chapter At the present tltne the county has a case load of nearly 40 per sons who still are receiving hos pitalization or being provided with care A total fit was spent on this program in 1946 despite the fact that only 10 new cases were reported that year These facts reveal the import ance of the 1947 campaign Chair man Thomson points out Ex penses for the polio program are expected to continue for some time at the rate of close to a month And while the advance from the national foundation wasnt in the form of a loan the reasonable thing is to start re turning this money as the case load lightens The funds are to be raised largely through contribution lists according to Mr Thomson These will be placed in all schools as well as in industries and other places of business Fifty per cent of the funds raised remain in the county and 50 per cent goes to the national foundation LADS LEG BROKEN Chvatai 8 year old son of Mr and Mrs John Chvatai suffered a broken left leg below the knee when he fell on the ice while playing near his home
