more em phasized fay Mr Hail than scenic features By W EARL HALL BETHLEHEM IN J U D E Little Town of Bethlehem is going to have a new meaning for me from now on 1 have stood in the sacred precincts where Jesus was born Ive looked upon what is regarded as the exact spot where in swaddling clothes He was laid in a manger A 12mile trip by motor car brought me and my colleague to this once undis tinguislied little city where Jo seph and Mary one night were assigned to stable actually a cave because there was no room in the W EARL HALL The Church of the Nativity oldest edifice in continuous re ligious use in the entire world now marks the exact spot where this most important single event in the history of civilization took place Even our Godless nations measure time from Christs birth Franciscan Service Three denominations of ancien origin Roman Catholic Greek and Armenian share in5 ale operations of this holiest o shrines As we descended to the area in which the Christchilc was born a service by the Fran ciscan order was in progress We paused to hear it out an ex perience not to be ever The Church of the Nativity dates back to the 5th century when Helena mother of Constan tine Romes first Christian Em peror dedicated her life to seek ing out the hallowed places o Christianity and erecting suitabl markings In Jerusalem thi Church of the Holy Sepulchre wa a fruit of her trend was expected to con tinue through Saturday The mercury skidded to 11 be low at Sibley 4 below at Spencer 3 below at Mason City and 2 be low at Sioux City early Friday Davenport was warmest with House Public Health Committee Thursday Under the proposed bill a nursing home application li cense would have to be accom panied by a certificate of in spection and compliance signed by the state fire mar shal Not Actually lit The State Health Department suggested the committeeap proved bill It is for the hand ling of individuals who are not actually ill and not in need of hospital care but need skilled nursing care and related medi cal Each nursing home would need a State Health Department license after next July 4 Annual license fees would be for homes of 10 beds or less for those of 10 to 25 beds for 25 to 75 beds for homes of 75 to 150 beds and for those of more than 150 beds 24Hour Program Under the measure a nursing home would be defined as aa institution providing an organ ized continuing 24hour pro gram of nursing care commen surate with the needs of the pa tients and supervised either by a licensed registered or prac tical nurse Either a house physician or individually selected physi cians would direct medical or nursing care The Health Department would have authority to deny suspend or revoke a license for failure to comply withj regulations or standards or for such reasons as Cruelty or indifference to welfare of patients financial inability of the operator to con duct a home according to mini mum standards and poor moral character Three Hurt in CarTrain Crash at Charles City CHARLES CITY The driver of a car which collided with a train here Thursday afternoon was hospitalized with a concus sion and possible skull fracture He is Lloyd Eggers 19 who was driving a car which ran into a Milwaukee freight train on a crossing here Passengers were Shirley Beck 13 Betty Merrill 13 and Gene Putney 17 All are from Charles City Putney escaped injury but the other three were taken to the Cedar Valley Hospital The girls were treated and released Miss Merrill had left ankle bruises and a side injury and Miss Beck a cut lip and a bruised knee Call for
