Too Heavy WASHINGTON UPI The Federal Aviation Agency FAA Saturday explained a rash of nearcollision reports in 12 sim ple words Too many planes too little airspace and not enough con trol facilities In the past five days five commercial airliners reported near misses with military air craft THE CLOSEST call involved a Capital Airlines Viscount which had to dive to avoid a headon collision with an Air Force B47 near Charlotte N The airliner was on a route and at an alitiludc assigned by fed eral air traffic control Friday a Capital Constellation and an Air Force cargo plane swerved to avoid each other over Kentucky Both were on assigned altitudes and routes American and Eastern airlines also reported nearL collisions earlier in the week The latest incident appeared to be a freak Both the Capital Airlines and the Air Force cargo plane had filed flight plans which took them over intersect ing routes The FAA will inves tigate why air traffic control apparently allowed their paths Lo
