made changes By SANCHE DE GRAMONT New York Herald Tribune News Service NEW jet age has spawned a new breed of travel er He boards a transatlantic flight as though he was taking the bus to work He accepts the miracle of traveling thousands of miles in a matter with a casual shrug And he runs the gauntlet of customs and passport offices with the practiced ease of a housewife at a supermarket checkout coun ter At Idlewild Airport here an average of 30000persons arrive daily who have just finished fly ing across an ocean or are just about to fly across an ocean On the whole they seem as im pressed as if they were on an errand to the corner drug store AS PLANES have taken the lead over ships in transatlantic travel in the past two years airborne passengers have re placed the easygoing traditions of luxury liners with a travel ritual of their own based oh speed efficiency and detach ment A transatlantic liner may be thought of as a way of life but a transatlantic plane is usually thought of as a form of locomo tion The overnight bag bearing the airlines emblem has replaced the steamer trunk The bon voyage champagne parties have given way to a quick drink atj the bar And the
