Mason City Globe-Gazette (Newspaper) - December 26, 1936, Mason City, Iowa THOMPSON MAN CRASH VICTIM Stout Hurt as Auto Hits Bridge Leaves Wife 3 Children Stout 36 farmer who lived 2 miles north west of Thompson was fatally hurt while returning from Fort Dodge His car crashed into an abutment of a bridge north of Rowan He was found by a pass ing motorist and taken to a Clarion hospital where he died Wednes day night The body was returned to Thompson Thursday afternoon He leaves a wife and three sons Milton Roger and Jerry MASON CITY GLOBEGAZETTE DECEMBER 26 H 1936 THREE MAS TY EEN ATTRACTI swamplands of Louisiana on the edge of the muddy Mississippi The picture deals with the life of the poor white trash who live there in their shantyboats It has a musical background which con tains such catchy tunes as The St Louis Blues and the title song Banjo on My Knee Walter Brennan and Kathcrinc DcMille are featured in strong supporting roles Also included in BARBARA STANWYCK ANN SOTHERN garage of bib homewhere he had hanged him self The body was found by hib daughter Ruth Mead Mr Mead who operated a farm for many years near Thornton had been ill since he sufcrcd n stroke early in November follow ing which he spent two weeks in the hospital He was at the homo of his daughter Mis Esther Cook in Mason City Christmas day Two other daughters Mrs M M Woods Salem Va and Mrs Harry Eggert Rockford 111 two grandchildren Ruth and Mead Cook one brother Fred Mead Lake Worth Fla and two sisters Mrs Ella Thomas Austin and Mrs Leon McMillan California survive Mrs Mead died 10 year ago Funeral arrangcmcnls arc awaiting word from relatives Mr Mead was born at Pawpaw 111 Nov 5 1865 and moved with his family to a farm three miles north of Thornton in 1900 Me op crated the farm until eight years ago when he moved to Thornton and tour years ago came to Clear Lake to live Pastor Returns Home Rev E A Duea pastor of the Lutheran church whose leg was amputated at the Lutheran hospital nbout two weeks ago was able to return to his home Christmas eve and is getting along fairly well His son Orvis Duea and family of FU Dodge and the Misses Margaret and Gunda Sawl sisters of Mis Duea of Kenyon Minn visited the Duea home for Christmas Auto Turns Over in Crash Near Algona driven by M P Nemitz ol Hampton and Mrs R Dirksen of Kanawha crashed Christmas on the intersection ct the Titonka road and highway 18 about 10 miles east of Algona Both cars were traveling from the cast and as Mrs Dirksen attempt cd to turn on to the graveled road the accident occurred The Dirksen car was
